Colts vs. Saints Superbowl XLIV

All of Indiana is a Twitter, torn between our unflappable Colts and our Purdue allegiances to Drew Brees of the Saints. But it would seem that analysts are favoring the Colts, and here is why.

It’s not really the Colts vs. Purdue

The Colts entered the post season with an enveloping black storm. Fans are angry that they ‘gave up’ on week 16 to the Jets, and, based on past performance, were nervous that a week of rest would only mean a rusty offense that would underperform in the divisional matchup. However, the Colts back handed the number three defense in Baltimore, defeating the Ravens 20-3, and subsequently the number one defense in the Jets by a score of 30-17.

Defense – The Colts defense does not get enough credit, and add in Peyton Manning, the ranking of 18th holds no value. What chance do the Saints have with a 25th ranked defense when the Colts toppled the 1st and 3rd ranked defense with relative ease?
Turnovers – The Colts rarely turn the ball over, especially now that Peyton has kicked his pass post season pick off problems. How about that for alliteration? The Saints won against the Vikings on the back of 5 turnovers. They will have no such luck against Indianapolis.
Emotion – The consensus is that this game means the world to New Orleans. But you don’t think the Colts know a little bit about emotion and changing the tide? Just look at their 38-34 come from behind win against the Patriots in 2006 (Who consistently had their number to that point), look at the record of come from behind wins they had this year, including the win against the Jets this week. The Colts can adjust and shift any momentum in their favor, emotion or not.

It would appear that this game is the Colts to lose. For all of you Purdue fans out there, maybe you’ll need to throw your weight behind that other Purdue alumn instead – Curtis Painter. Drew Brees is an amazing and accurate quarterback, he’ll make it a game. But there is a good chance they’ll go home disappointed.

I’m sure picking up a pair of Purdue college logo sneakers couldn’t hurt either, every little bit helps.

Butler is a phenomenal school, and we were so pumped to secure the license to make some Bulldog sneakers celebrating their success. We’re even happier when someone enjoys the sneakers. It’s fun to see photos of them out in the wild, we only get to see them stocked in the warehouse.

The disaster in Haiti, a need that Moxsters could fill.

We’re huge IUPUI fans here at Moxsters, and we are also huge fans of Ron Hunter. Two years ago Ron partnered with Samaritan’s Feet to help raise awareness for needy children without shoes. His campaign worked! Once we learned about Samaritan’s Feet and their mission, we knew that we too could make a difference. Little did we know the timing to make an impact could not have been better.

Donating sneakers to Samaritan’s Feet

In early December 2009, Moxsters donated 2,300 pairs of shoes to aid in the effort to reach some 300 million people without proper footwear. Our unused sneakers could have adequately fill the need for any number of the mission trips to South Africa, Brazil or Peru. But then there was the earthquake in Haiti.

The disaster mounts in Haiti

Earlier this week, a cataclysmic earthquake struck Haiti affecting tens of thousands of people. Samaritan’s Feet has announced a mission trip in April to Haiti and although we didn’t have a mission in mind – after seeing the mass devastation that the country has sustained, Moxsters asked if our sneakers could go to those in Haitians in need.

Indianapolis has seen a great outpouring of monetary and other support for Samaritan’s Feet. Through Ron Hunter’s efforts and donations from large organizations like Finish Line, we can all make a difference in lives of many. Moxsters supports their mission to reach 10 million in need over the next 10 years.

If you wish to donate to help the efforts of the Red Cross in Haiti, you can text “HAITI” to “90999″ to make a $10 donation. For more information about how to donate check your local media outlet. Or if you prefer, you can donate directly to Samaritan’s Feet to support one of their upcoming mission efforts.

What is dye sublimation?

Simplified, dye sublimation is a process where you reverse print a design or a photo and then use temperatures above 400 degrees to turn the inks into a gas that then bond with the substrate. But why not just demonstrate instead? Here are two videos that give you a quick idea of how our prints are fabricated.

History of dye sublimation on sneakers

The assumption could be made that dye sublimation is a newer printing process, one that was only possible with advances in inks and technology. But that isn’t true. Dye Sublimation printing has been around in one form or another for over 50 years.

However, the application of this graphical, detailed, vibrant printing technology for shoes is a very new idea. View the videos below to get a general idea on how the technology works. Our manufacturing process includes a larger format printer and press, but these smaller sized heat transfer presses (18 x 20) are very common for printing on other substrates used on mugs, plastics, as well as fabrics incorporated into other products.

Dye sublimation is used in our process with a synthetic blend that is rugged and sturdy – not stiff – for our college logo sneakers.

As we write this a new shipment is arriving here at our warehouse in Indianapolis of all of our favorite college shoes – Michigan State, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Butler and so many more. After the jump we’ll share a couple of photos of the boxes arriving early this morning.

Unloading a container of shoes into the warehouse usually takes less than two hours if we’re cranking – today it took just over one. All of the favorite sneaker designs are there, Xavier, Michigan State, St. Johns, University of Massachusetts, Arizona State, etc. Here are some photos showing the boxes, an open box of University of Indianapolis shoes and a pair of the MSU college logo sneakers sitting out;

Top 5 College Sneakers for 2010

Here at Moxsters, we have our own dream list of colleges for whom we’d like to make sneakers, sooner than later of course. For 2009 CLC listed their most profitable college licenses, and its no surprise that our top five schools pretty much align.

Colleges we want to see sneakers

We’re not talking a simple screen printed logo, or an embroidered insignia, we’re talking a full sneaker designed for Longhorn fans – which leads us right into our list of top college licenses from CLC.

University of Florida – Gators

51,000+ body of students, 150 years of academia and recent NCAA national championships in both their football and basketball programs Florida has had tremendous success that has totaled 17 championships in all over the years. A iconic logo of an intimidating gator head would fit the side of a shoe nicely with a swish element or logo’d background. We currently have some Gator sneakers with the image of a real alligator and a scaly texture.

University of Georgia – Bulldogs

Established in 1785! the University of Georgia has established successful sports teams in everything from baseball and tennis to football and gymnastics. With a student body near 35,000, they may pale in size to some of the other schools but they have consistently produced top echeleon professional football players, from Herschel Walker to Hines Warm and most recently Matthew Stafford. The simple character logo coupled with a simple design with their fight song would make for some truly awesome fan footwear.

Louisiana State University – Tigers

LSU has had tremendous success in their football program, especially as of late. LSU and Florida have owned the national championship and have sparked a riveting rivalry in the last five years. This national recognition coupled with an awesome logo design using colors off the beaten path can make for some awesome sneakers. We had the limited time Geaux Tigers sneakers that sold out – pictured below.

University of Texas at Austin – Longhorns

Texas at Austin is the definition of a big school – 51,000+ in their student body and one of the most successful sports programs in all of college sports the Longhorns have a rich history dating back over 100 years and their simple, iconic logo makes a great element for making a sneaker design.

University of Michigan – Wolverines

Not the largest student body but one of the most storied, the University of Michigan might have not been in the top 5 earning licenses last year, but they were in the top 10. U of M is approaching nearly 200 years of academia and has the most wins (nearly 900) in NCAA football history. Wolverine fans love their football, and we’d love to have a college sneaker just for them.

Michigan State Sports Top 10 of the 2000

Came across this article today on spartymsu that lists five of the top 10 sports accomplishments at MSU over the last decade. Fun read, and informative – I must have missed ‘The Fumble’ heard ’round the state in 2005….

Michigan State Athletics

Michigan State has a tremendous basketball program, but when it comes to football their program has always had issues consistently competing against the University of Michigan (67-30-5). Just this year Chad Henne has gained some notoriety with the Miami Dolphins, but back in 2005 Henne was a sophomore at U of M and the team was 2-2 going into its game against Michigan State.

Michigan ended up winning the football game on a field goal in overtime against Michigan State, but that was an emotional moment for the Spartans.

More MSU Sports Moments

I’ll be curious to see what the top 5 moments in Spartan sports are. Hopefully another video or two of great in game heroics.

Next fall we hope a lot more fans will be wearing Michigan State tennis shoes to the games. And in 2010 we should have University of Michigan logo sneakers as well. Shameless plug over

Let’s say you woke up one day and realized, “Why am I wearing plain, flat color sneakers? My feet need artwork!” Ten minutes of massaging Google and you’d find all sort of colorful graphic style sneakers. But what is the right option? Let’s take a look.

Xavier vs. Wake Forest – History in the making
